I have one canvas bag free from magazine. It say "plastic bag is out" on the bag but do you know the packaging of the canvas bag is PLASTIC BAG.
When you manufacture something, it takes natural resources and energy. Absolutely it releases waste and pollution. If you say you are environmental friendly people. You much stop manufacturing, stop making waste, stop over consume, stop producing "not plastic bag".

http://www.bringyourownbag.ca

Post-it Art

In the corporate world, climbing ladders and shaking hands run simultaneous.
Between lunches, dinners, and meetings, something had to surface among the
numbing UV lights of the office to keep everything in line. The Post-it Note, a
small square with re-adhearable adhesive on the back, was one such answer. The
three-inch bright yellow square was employed as a reminder, a note, or for
organization… But some don’t see it as only a productivity tool… they see it as
a medium for colorful art.

Even on 3M’s corporate site the Post-it Notes are sold with the slogan “So
express yourself in color.” Some creative people took that idea to heart and
below are several examples of how people have used the sticky notes to create
works of art.

new collection at http://www.tshirtaxid.com

our new collection now available !!!!!!!
http://www.tshirtaxid.com

angel

devil

day dream

north pole life

red alert

day dream

fighter

MUJI: Enter the next level

Without the presence of logos or any brand clues, some of you have been buying their products for years, without even taking notice of the brand name. Today MUJI is already a massive retail brand. The range of over 5,000 products MUJI offers completes nearly every aspect of daily life and includes everything from stationery to kitchenware, toiletries, clothing, furniture, food, electronics, and housing.

The name ‘MUJI’ is derived from ‘Mujirushi Ryohin’, Japanese for “no label, quality goods.” and it pretty much sums up the brand’s approach. “What you see is what you get.” There is no effort to flaunt or flirt. That is what distinguishes MUJI from other brands. The philosophy underpinning MUJI’s design – that of emptiness – isn’t that easy to imitate and the so-called concept of ‘Simplicity’ is not as simple as it spells. Let’s try to make some point out of a Zen’s reflection on emptiness – the philosophy recently adopted into MUJI ad campaign.
“Usually when you see a mountain, you see a certain object…but through the eye of Zen, a mountain doesn’t exist. It’s us people who create and live in the idea of that mountain.” said a Zen priest.

From the above, ‘Emptiness’ equals ‘non-being’, thus, it leaves room for ‘flexibility’. MUJI products always reflect Japanese simple way of life and philosophy. Kenya Hara, MUJI’s creative director explained

“Like an empty Japanese tea room where the appreciation happens between the tea maker and her guest, MUJI brand is like an empty vessel, ready to be filled with your thoughts and imagination…”

However, in the world of product design, while everyone is talking about creating and owning ‘Identity’. MUJI has chosen the reverse policy to demote such an identity from their work. Imagine the work of Philippe Stark for example. The uncompromising characteristics of his design label his name onto every piece of work. No doubt that Stark’s chair would look deadly amazing in a showroom or magazine setting. Yet you might find it rather hard to sit his design comfortably in your homey space… On the contrary, MUJI design is subtle, unrecognizable even but it goes easy with any sort of environment.

Hara also explains that one of MUJI’s more difficult missions is to try and settle the seemingly contradictory notions of “traditional Japanese minimalism” with MUJI’s goal of achieving “absolute universality” through their products. An example of this is how the very concept of MUJI is stealthily spreading, with the commitment to simplicity and minimal aesthetics prioritised above everything else.

“If you create something so simple – less is more,” says Hara.

In MUJI store, the concept of ‘brand-free’ is applied throughout; there are no designer tags inside or out of a MUJI product. The mission of the brand is to supply quality products at affordable prices. Occasionally the tagline “Simple. Functional. Affordable.” will appear to remind the consumer of the benefits of the product. You won’t see any luxurious promotional signs. Nor will you find ultra stylish product displays and store decoration. What you will find is a Zen-like, peaceful environment with pleasingly functional products wrapped in spare recycled packaging. Once you take out the price tag, you will suddenly lose track of the product’s origin. Very MUJI!

After 2 decades of forward thinking design and strict brand conduct, finally the anti-brand approach has gained MUJI the new value. People start to recognize the unrecognizable. Though there are hundreds of design copycats entering the market with much lower price. Asked where the real profit returns to? It all goes to none other than its originator… MUJI.

by Visa Sorntrakul
http://www.muji.net

CODE SHOP

What is codeSHOP?
codeSHOP is a window into code, where ideas for a fun and modern lifestyle are constantly created, crafted and ready to be taken home.

meet they here!!

Triple rings!

Student's handmade product

www.myspace.com/bkkcode

In 1970, Vivienne Westwood, the British fashion doyenne, and Malcolm McLaren decided to open a shop in the most unfashionable area like St. Christopher’s Place in London. Her clothes were so extremely outrageous and hardly wearable, not to mention very pricey. Surely, it went down soon after. Do you think this is a stinky idea?

But looking at it from another perspective, if the two of them didn’t stand up to express their idea and dare to be different, Vivienne Westwood wouldn’t have become one of the world’s most successful fashion designers. And Malcolm McLaren might not have put together a legendary punk band like the Sex Pistols.

everyone can come up with new and different idea. But not everyone can successfully turn his/her idea into a reality. You never know if an idea is good or bad until it’s put into use. Bad idea that gets used is better than good idea that is left untouched. Since, even if an idea goes wrong or fails to succeed, at least you still get to learn a great deal from those lessons

Wear empowerment !!

http://www.africaaid.org/

There are 6500 millions world poppulation.

48% would live on less than US $2 a day.

48% would lack access to basic sanitation.

25% would live in substandard housing or have no home at all.

20% would live on less than US $1 a day.

8% would have Internet access from home.

If you are reading this article, that mean you're 8% in the world, you are very very lucky person.
If you feel so lucky, you may donate 20$ for 1 tee, your donation feeds 1 african refugee child for 1 school year.

buy it now!!
American Apparel t-shirts, made from 100% combed cotton, sweatshop free, made in Downtown Los Angeles.
It is almost impossible for most of us to imagine the trauma that the survivors of December 2004 tsunami have undergone. One moment, a paradise coastline that provided work and good health... In an instant, that paradise lost. Lost loved ones, lost homes, fractured communities and lost livelihoods. Like in any bereavement, we come rushing to comfort and provide the best we can for the short term but, before long, survivors must face the truth of what has happened and it is up to themselves to rebuild and carry on with their lives in spite of the injustice that many may feel towards some others.
Soon after that terrible tragedy rocked the world, the venerable Mitsuo Kawestco¸ founder of the Buddhist Maya Kotamee Foundation, realised that survivors needed both spiritual therapy as well as a secure and steady working environment in which they could cope with their experience and rebuild their lives within their former communities. The Saori project has answered both these needs, particularly among the women.

Physically, the Saori project is no more than a simple tent. Within it are a few small handlooms, a few sewing machines and some basic hand sewing equipment. The floor was, until recently, old wooden pallets but is now a more workable cement slab partly covered with vinyl. Psychologically, Saori is a place of solace, a hive of activity, a buzz of conversation and the bringer of real hope for the future for over 150 women. At first, the raw materials were the dismantled threads of excess donated clothing. Now, much use is made of off-cuts and leftovers from fabric manufacturers – though more is much needed – as well as any other suitable waste material, including plastic string. The end result is a beautiful, colourful woven cloth mix, each length different using the creativity of each weaver. The cloth is made up into all kinds of vivid bags and accessories that appeal to both young and old. New life is given to otherwise waste materials. Its production has given new life, hope and renewal to broken individuals and fractured communities of the tsunami.

Among the world’s leading trade shows, including Salone in Milan, Maison et Objet in Paris, IMM in Cologne, FIM in Valencia, 100% Design in London and Tokyo, in terms of the tile industry in particular, Cersaie stands out as the best show, not just for entrepreneurs but also architects and designers.

Hani Rashid and Lise- Anne Couture’s proposal for the Guggenheim Museum in Mexico is proposed to be clad in ceramic tiles using laser-cutting technology, which Rashid discovered when he visited Cersaie a few years ago.

For people in the tile industry Bologna is part of the world championship stage, much the same as Milan is for furniture. Part of the reason is because the city is close to “Sassuolo”, the ceramic industrial city. It is also close to the city that manufactures Ferrari, and both these factors conjure up an image of Bologna as being something between “craftsmanship” and “speedy”.

Especially for tiles, along with the craftsmanship there are more aspects including machines, studios, raw materials and special technicians that play a role. Together, they make Sassuolo Italy’s land of tiles. Whoever enters the ceramic tile industry has to be involved with two destinations that are two-hour drive from each other: Bologna for the trade fair, and Sassuolo for manufacturing sources.

The 2006 Cersaie features all the international standards including exhibition space, trading space and related conferences. This year, celebrated California architect Thom Mayne, along with Massimiliano Fuksas are the keynote speakers at the conference entitled “Bologna and Cersaie - visions for a new architecture”. Antonio Citterio has designed the event’s key visual. We can also see that more and more leading icons such as Marcel Wanders, Tord Boontje or Andr?e Putman are playing a significant role in the ceramic tile design industry. Next year Cersaie will have Toyo Ito take part in the exhibition design as well.

Overall, the products at Cersaie 2006 can be put into two groups: natural imitation ceramic to resemble stone, wood or metal, and graphic pattern ceramic, mosaic and glass tile. In terms of style most of the products have a classic base, with same dark and mystic colour tones in response to the latest trend seen at Mason et Objet. Floral graphic patterns can also be found in almost every booth.

Wood like ceramic, both for indoor and outdoor, never goes out of trend. Also known as Plank, most wood-likeceramic tiles are Spanish brands. We are told that Thai Plank is as good as other top quality brands, and its price is cheaper. Another interesting movement is a metal-look-tile, which seems to be very progressive - from something that looks like metal to a metal glossed tile that is magnetic and can get real rusty too!

“Leather” always seems to be around in the form of ostrich, snake or tiger skin patterns that are screened on ceramic tiles. We have seen a horse skin tile produced by the Thai ceramic industry, but we don’t know how it has fared in the market.

The only Thai brand at Cersaie 2006 is Cotto Tiles whose booth is in Hall 36, which is somewhat tough because there are a number of big brands in this hall. However, being selected to participate in this exhibition is the best guarantee for the quality of this Thai product. There are many manufacturers, especially from China, who are not able to show their products at the fair and they are to be found handing out leaflets in front of the exhibition center.

They do manage to pick up a few buyers from the venue but outside the fair, and this guerrilla action is giving the Italian professionals, who organized the fair, a real headache. It is made of using an industrial knitting or weaving machine programmed by a computer. This process creates continuous tubes of fabric within which lie both shape and pattern. The customers cuts sleeves and skirts exactly to length they want. It is an idea that totally overthrows the existing standards for making clothes.

Mass production and custom-made clothing, seemingly opposing ideas, become compatible with each other through the wizardry of technology and the fire of imagination.

In the early 1990's when Akira Isogawa's name first appeared in print as a new comer to Australian fashion, many remembered him as someone with the same first name as the legendary film maker Kurosawa.

Back then, Akira's modest beginning did not make a deep mark in the media as much as that of the old master's. Fast forward a few years, you still see the same slight framed, unobtrusive man with a clear vision, who has become much more celebrated and is now a popular culture force in his own right.

In Australia Akira is known by the first name just like a pop star. He is one of the most successful Australian designers with an impressive list of international retail clients. His work has been regularly featured in exhibitions both as fashion and art. Akira has won many awards which include the prestigious Australian Womenswear Designer and Designer of the Year (1999). He now shows his catwalk collections in Sydney, Melbourne and Paris.

So far, to the general public, the information on 'how' Akira has conceptualized and accomplished such remarkable creations has been kept under wrap. That is, until his latest exhibition in The National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. Named simply, Akira Isogawa: Printemps-éte, the exhibition covers 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional records of processes that took place from concept to finished collection for the Spring/Summer Collection 2005 to be shown in Paris.

The combination of material and paper together with found objects of antique paper dolls becomes a catalyst that takes Akira from inspiration, collaboration, proportion, construction to execution. The audience can venture through the labyrinth of Akira's thought processes that covers laborious and time consuming experiments in the 5 months prior to the collection.

For us it is a journey into the mind of a designer. It is material evidence that creativity may be an enormous gift for Akira but one can never underestimate his focused mind and the willingness to achieve triumph with sheer hard work.

It has been 20 years since Akira's arrival to Australia. Fresh from Kyoto, the 21 year old was alone and could not communicate in English. Seeking his own path to 'freedom'- the word he often used in many of his previous interviews, Akira's early years were a complete challenge with small income and no permanent home.

Nevertheless, the wide open space and the new way of living without a sense of conformity convinced the former cultural tour guide to stay. In the nomadic existence he once shared a modest home with the well acclaimed artist, Christiane Lehmann who since became his friend and muse.

Akira has always been interested in Fashion and took formal training at the East Sydney College of Sydney Institute of Technology in Darlinghurst just off Oxford Street. In the late 80’s, the whole length of Oxford Street was a showcase for all the small independent fashion labels and alternative lifestyles. There were other fashionable places like the sophisticated Martin Place in the center of town and the exclusive Double Bay for the society ladies.

But Oxford Street was unique. Running through Paddington and Darlinghurst, the street was cool, quirky, historical, full of cultural and income diversity and was somewhere to be seen. The character of this street still remains much the same today. So it was no surprise that Akira chose the location of his first boutique in Woollahra off the eastern tip of Oxford Street in 1993.

Right from the beginning of his fashion career, Akira chose to remain autonomous. He played his cards right by participating in a group show for the inaugural Mercedez Australian Fashion Week in 1996. By his second show on his own in 1997, Akira's work drew great coverage and recognition so much so that the media and buyers touted him as the next big thing.

The timing of Akira's arrival on the scene was pivotal. By then people were completely tired of the big shoulder pads, skin tight spandex, fluffy hair and loud colors of the 80's. People tried the grunge look of the early 90' as a substitute but soon became overwhelmed by the deglamorised, drab, dressing down designer frocks that still cost the earth. They were thirsty for something 'new' that sits between the two looks that could fulfill the New Age attitude of eastern spirituality, synergy, sensuality and global wisdom. Artistically, no one could fit the bill more than Akira.

Politically, the Australian government's campaign for multiculturalism was much stronger and proactively enforced than ever before. It did not matter at all that the Fashion Week was in Australia instead of the usual Paris, Milan, New York or London. The Akira brand was born at the same time as Information age and it took on the world.

What Akira has presented through his work was the feminine ethereal quality that although quite delicate to behold, has a powerful monastic impact on the viewers and wearers alike. He represents a blend of east and west that is like no other with tucks and folds that form asymmetric lines. The silhouettes are fluid and often unstructured with the same concept as the kimono although his designs have undergone various evolutional processes away from it. There is a feeling of youthfulness but his clothes do not define any particular age group.

What the dresses speak for are the attitude of the wearers who are often sophisticated, intelligent and confident women who are widely read like curators, film directors, writers and artists. Akira plays with the paradox of calming purity and drama by using predominantly creamy colors and layers of transparent fabrics with a jolt of dramatic colors and asymmetrical Ikebana-like composition.

It is obvious that Akira does not wish to be identified as the cloning of the Japanese's predecessors, Miyake, Yamamoto and Comme des Garcons. His own work is unique. But like those designers, the Japanese cultural influences appear in Akira’s work in many forms. In the exhibition one can see his adaptation of Origami techniques, patchwork and embroidery. He reconstructed them with western tailoring techniques until they become his own handwriting.

In Akira’s previous collections, he has used pieces of antique kimono fabrics that he had unpicked from the finds through numerous trips to Japan. Old kimonos are considered to contain the souls of the former owners. The very traditional Japanese avoid buying second hand kimonos.

Not Akira. He sees it as a way of giving new context to the kimono and makes it aesthetically ready for new owners. There is a hint of the New World attitude here. At one stage Akira was a proud owner of 50 complete kimonos and up to 100 that have been unpicked and stored with tissue paper.

So he is a reluctant recycler and a vintage fan on top of everything else.Another dimension to Akira is his collaboration with other talents to create an even more enriched collection. One of his long time collaborators is Lehmann who found him the antique paper dolls for Akira Isogawa: Printemps-Ete collection.

Then there is a fabric printing company in Sydney, Signature Prints. He also works with artisans in Bali and India for the handwork on the fabrics. The collaboration has given Akira a lateral stimulation and provocation to discover new methods and looks.

Akira has given some of his time to diversifying his creativity by collaborating with the Sydney Dance Company. It began in 1998 with the show, Salome. Then came The Air and Other Invisible Forces and most recently, Ellipse. Through costume designing Akira gained a greater understanding of the dramatic power of fabrics and the significance of clothes as seen from all angles-front, back and side. He was able to bring back with him a new structure that would later impact on his work.

Street smart but reticent man that he is, Akira is a subject of fascination for those who know him. We are fortunate to have Akira’s exhibition here in Bangkok’s Queens Gallery in March this year. The exhibition which has done a bit of traveling to Manila and Singapore on its way to Thailand has earned great reviews.

There will be many positive messages from the exhibitions and for many exhibition goers, Akira illustrates that anything is possible. No doubt it will inspire renewed enthusiasm for others to embark on their own creative passage.

http://www.akira.com.au/

Axid 2 weeks anniversary

We've launch our website about 2 weeks.
